On 22/8/2013, the Council of Representatives (CoR) held its 14th session of the 1st legislative term of the 4th period chaired by the Speaker H.E. Osama al-Nujaifi:
- 242 MPs attended the session
- The CoR delayed voting on the list of candidates for membership of the Federal Service Council submitted by the Committee on Legal Affairs to give sufficient time for this Committee to review the CVs of the candidates and ensure that the principle of balance has been observed;
- The CoR voted to pass the legislative proposal for ratifying the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the Government of the State of Kuwait on regulating water navigation in Khor Abdullah submitted by the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Legal Affairs;
- The CoR resumed the debate on the legislative proposal for the amendment of the Parliamentary Elections Law No. 16 for 2005 submitted by the Committee on Legal Affairs;
- The CoR voted to pass the Forensic Medicine Law submitted by the Committee on Health and Environment;
- The CoR finished the first reading of the legislative proposal for the 3rd amendment of the University Service Law No. 23 for 2008 submitted by the Committee on Higher Education and Scientific Research;
- The CoR voted in principle to proceed with the reading of the legislative proposal for the 3rd amendment University Service Law No. 23 for 2008 submitted by the Committee on Higher Education and Scientific Research to enact the Law;
- The CoR discussed the situation of the Syrian refugees;
- The Speaker al-Nujaifi demanded the Committee on Security and Defense to expedite submitting a detailed report on prisoners escape from Abu Ghareeb and Taji prisons to discuss the report in a plenary session dedicated to the issue; - The session was adjourned to Monday 26/8/2013. |
