On (24/2/2024), the House of Representatives held its ninth session of the first legislative term of the third legislative year of the fifth electoral cycle, headed by the First vice-Speaker , Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, in the presence of (171) Representatives , and the session included:
-Voting on the draft law on the ratification by the Republic of Iraq of the Arab Protocol to Prevent and Combat Trafficking in Human Beings, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the Arab Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, submitted by the Foreign Relations Committee.
-Postponing the first reading of the draft law cancelling the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council Resolution No. 15 of 2003 submitted by the Legal Committee, after it was withdrawn by the Government.
-First reading of the proposed law on the first amendment to the Passports Law No. (33) of 2015 submitted by the Security and Defense Committee.
-Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi directing the Committee for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances to submit its work report during the current week to be presented at today’s session .
-First reading of the proposed law on the first amendment to the Private Higher Education Law No. (25) of 2016 submitted by the Higher Education Committee.
-Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, Acting Speaker of the House , instructed to raise the issue of the attack on demonstrators in Basra Governorate by the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, pointing out his categorical rejection of the attack on any Iraqi citizen and demanding their rights.
-Second reading of the draft law on protection from tobacco harms, submitted by the Health and Environment Committee.
-The interventions of the ladies and gentlemen of the Representatives focused on demanding the need to adhere to the observance of the law banning smoking in public places, strengthening its executive aspects and improving the quality of life, as well as spreading the culture of health protection in society and inquiring about the identification of the bodies responsible for implementing the penalties contained in the law, in addition to calling for the imposition of large taxes on imported cigarettes and the transfer of their funds to support the health sector
