Session Details
On (31/10/2024), the House of Representatives held its sixteenth session of the second legislative term of the third legislative year of the fifth electoral cycle under the chairmanship of First Vice-Speaker Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi in the presence of (271) Representatives, and the session included:
-Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi called on the members of the House to proceed with the completion of the process of electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, in accordance with the rules of procedure of the House.
-The first round of the voting session led to MP Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani obtaining 153 votes out of a total of 271 votes, while MP Salem Al-Issawi received 95 votes, MP Amer Abdul-Jabbar received 9 votes, while the number of invalid votes reached 14 votes.
-The House resumed the procedures of the second round of the process of electing the Speaker of the House, which led to Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani winning the position of Speaker of the House after obtaining 182 votes, while MP Salem Al-Issawi obtained 42 votes, and MP Amer Abdul-Jabbar obtained 8 votes, while the number of invalid papers reached 39 votes out of the total number of voters.
-The elected Speaker of the House, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, delivered his speech after winning the post of President, thanking the Representatives for giving them confidence as Speaker of the House, adding that the responsibility that you have entrusted to us is an important and great assignment, stressing that we will make every effort, and we will be at the good expectations of everyone, pledging to work as a homogeneous team to legislate important laws that serve the people of our dear country and monitor the performance of the government in accordance with the government program submitted to the House of Representatives, to reach the best results, noting that the volume of legislative and oversight performance will increase during the coming period. While we will proceed with its legislation and activation, stand on the problems and find effective solutions to them, he also announced the position in support of the Palestinian cause calling for an end to the Zionist war on Gaza and Lebanon, expressing at the end of his speech his thanks to the First Vice President, Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, for his work during his term as acting Speaker of the House.
