On (20/7/2023), the House of Representatives held its fourth session of the second legislative term of the second legislative year of the fifth electoral cycle under the chairmanship of Muhammad Al-Halbousi, and the session included:
-The Speaker of the House, on behalf of the people and the presidency of the House, expressed great anger and complete rejection of the Swedish authorities' permission and protection of the encroachment once again on the sanctities of Muslims by attacking the sanctity of the Holy Quran, stressing the support of the Presidency of the House for the measures of the Iraqi government to sever diplomatic relations with the State of Sweden and the decision to expel the Swedish ambassador from Iraq.
- The House read a statement whose members condemned the incident of burning the Holy Quran, expressing deep regret for the status of relations with Sweden after its authorities allowed the repetition of the burning of the Holy Qur'an, and the Iraqi flag in front of the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The Council stands with the measures of the Iraqi government to take the necessary measures to preserve the dignity of Muslims first and Iraqis secondly through diplomatic means, and in a way that preserves the dignity of Iraq and its people to prevent the recurrence of such events, calling for the adoption of legislation criminalizing transgression of religious beliefs and symbols
